That Was Close

Facebook has sucked a lot of the energy out of the blogs lately, and since it evens and leavens and homogenizes everyone it isn't nearly as interesting. In a weak desperate moment I started browsing misc.writing, where verbose idiocy reigns supreme and begs, begs for one to put foolish people into their places. But I already know what good that'll do so I backed out again. Geez. Looking for online interaction -- that's mighty pathetic. The obvious answer is to get off of this crap completely.

Well, except for posting pictures now and then, and random things that Must Be Said. It's the looking for interaction online that is simply nowheresville. Yup. That was close.

LOL! Well, you saw me then, everywhere, doing everything. And I'm writing a ton, too. It's just all words, all the time. I've been kinda meh on blogging for a while though, and I can see it getting less and less frequent as time goes by. Facebook is just easier and faster, plus my kids are on there, so I can interact with them a little. But it all gets dull after a while: the FB meems, the Usenet sparring, the blogpoasts. Where's the next thing?

I didn't see you in usenet, I just saw one poast that like so many there was born of sheep-think and ignorance and I damn near logged in to say so and that's when I backed away from the edge and said Donnie boy that was close. F/book is getting to be annoying with all the shit they call memes but really aren't, they're just someone's two-second idea to get people to post miniscule shit about themselves, all part of this weird modern online trend to elevate ourselves and all our little uniquities to something seemingly "more" than they really are, except the "more" comes solely from being more visible. Blogs remain the better choice because they are more freeform and demanding but christ, some of them are really beginning to look like so much self-indulgent nothingness to me, mine very much included. I know, I know! It makes sense for people who need the distraction! I guess we all do! But I'm starting to kick against it, all of it. Right now I really think I need something else to distract me from how fucked all of this is, this real life busines I mean, something a little less eleventh grade but damme if I know what that'll be. Hmm. Lots of angst here, good thing I didn't blog it. No matter, I'm sure tomorrow I'll be back to normal.

Glad you made it out safely. FB is even losing its grasp on me these days, if you can believe that.

Or you could head on over to Me Head and comment now and then, brother ;)

I agree the Facebook thing has killed some blogging ju ju. Fuck it, I still give it up completely in my blog. Facebook isn't even like foreplay; it's just hands under the shirt.

And my advice? Come out into the world more. It will feed you.

DUUUUUUDE!

My advice is to bag all of it, and write for publication. Your stuff is often far better than much of what I read in the public prints. Turn away from looking for interaction online and start sending in your work to something other than your blog (well, maybe not all the time since I enjoy it).

Well, if I ever get economic downturned, I will indeed bag all of it, and become my inner Depression-era hobo writer, complete with pin-held stogie and battered Royal. You still have it, don't you?
